The National Association of Puerto Rican & Hispanic Social Workers, Inc. (NAPRHSW) stands in unwavering solidarity with New York City’s immigrant and Latino communities in light of recent immigration enforcement activities and the deeply concerning shooting incident in Marble Hill, Bronx.
As an organization rooted in social justice, human dignity, cultural advocacy, and the protection of vulnerable communities, we recognize the fear, uncertainty, and emotional trauma that incidents involving immigration enforcement and violence can create for individuals, children, and families.
No individual or family should have to live in fear of seeking safety, accessing essential services, or participating in their community because of their immigration status.
As social workers, we are guided by our professional responsibility to uphold human rights, advocate for equitable treatment, and protect the dignity and worth of every person, regardless of immigration status, ethnicity, language, or national origin.
We call for transparency, accountability, due process, and a thorough, impartial investigation into the shooting in Marble Hill. We also emphasize the importance of trauma-informed responses, culturally responsive mental health support, and access to accurate information and legal resources for affected families and communities.
We recognize that the impact of these events extends beyond those directly involved. Fear and uncertainty can ripple through entire neighborhoods, affecting children’s sense of safety, family stability, emotional well-being, and community trust.
To our immigrant brothers and sisters, our familias, and our communities: You are not alone. Your lives matter. Your dignity matters. Your voices deserve to be heard.
NAPRHSW remains committed to standing alongside immigrant families, community advocates, and fellow social workers in promoting safety, healing, justice, and the fundamental human rights of all people.
Our communities deserve dignity, not fear. Compassion, not division. Justice, not silence.
In solidarity,
National Association of Puerto Rican & Hispanic Social Workers, Inc. (NAPRHSW)
Together, we advocate. Together, we heal. Together, we stand.
